About Lurac

Luis R. Campos-García (Lurac)

Luis R. Campos-García (Lurac) was born, and raised in Mexico City. He migrated into the United States of North America, where he earned a BA in Art Studio at California State University, Sacramento. His preferred mediums are painting, drawing, printmaking, digital art, and photography. He is part of Sublevarte Colectivo, a collective of visual creators based in Mexico and with some members abroad, whose work can be found in the form of a sticker on a street corner in Mexico City, or as an artists’ book included in the collections of institutions like Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Getty Research Institute, and others. In the same way, he is a member of Sac Artc, a collective made of artists from Sacramento and surroundings.

“My artwork is an invitation to promote creativity and imagination. I want to inspire the viewers to reflect on different issues, and to value cultural diversity. My work deals with imagination, yet sometimes it makes social commentary on current issues. Equally important, I am concerned with the aesthetic value of my work.

I enjoy to create worlds inhabited by fantastic creatures, whose interactions sometimes maintain a resemblance to the real world. My artwork questions the hegemony that prevails in our society by means of dealing with themes usually avoided in mainstream culture. I like to incorporate elements inspired by Mesoamerican and Mexican cultures, street art, cartoons, globalization, and politics.

I like to express myself through painting, drawing, printmaking, digital art, and photography.”
